The Gatsby Experience – Weddings

Gerturde Stein wrote poetry in her car. Winston Churchill drank booze all day. D.H. Lawrence climbed mulberry trees. Hemingway wrote standing up and in the nude. At Gatsby, we opt for a slightly less eccentric approach but bring equal commitment to the creative process. We’re passionate about design and believe that true innovation and creativity are the result of an intentional and focused process that seeks to deeply understand its subject.

The following steps will allow us to understand who you are and help us create the perfect personality for your event. This process may include tearing up stacks of magazines, dusting off family relics, recounting most embarrassing moments and sharing a bottle of wine or two, but it will definitely include the following…

The Francis Box

When F. Scott Fitzgerald was in the middle of writing The Great Gatsby, his publisher commissioned an unknown artist named Francis Cugat to design the book’s cover. With only an unfinished story on which to base his artwork, Cugat took liberties and painted from his heart. When Fitzgerald saw the cover, he was so deeply inspired that he went back and changed his novel—his life’s work—to incorporate the elements and emotions he saw in Francis Cugat’s cover art.

The purpose of the Francis Box is to develop this kind of recursive, exponential inspiration. Like Fitzgerald, you are ultimately the author of your own story. And much like Francis Cugat, our job is to create visual elements to tell your story through your wedding. Into the Francis box, you will put the items, photos and memories that embody and represent who you are as a couple. Inspired by its contents; together, we will create the conceptual and visual identity of your wedding—which will in turn become the inspiration for all the other wedding elements, culminating in something far more dramatic than any of us could have invented on our own.

The Huddle

You’ll return with your overflowing Francis Box, and we’ll all sit down and get to know each other. This time we spend together will serve as the launching point for the identity of your event. Every knick-knack and story you share will give us insight into the identity and style that will be reflected on your big day.

The Inspiration Board

Based on what we learned in The Huddle, we’ll fill your Inspiration Board with images, colors, textures and ideas. This will be an entirely collaborative process where we’ll need your feedback about the parts you love and the things that don’t quite fit.

The Style Guide

After receiving your feedback on the Inspiration Board, we’ll develop a 10 page booklet to be the ultimate resource for the style of your wedding. The look, feel and essence of your wedding will be captured and explained in these pages, allowing you to communicate the style you’re going for to other wedding vendors throughout your planning process.

The Happy Ending

Once we’ve established the identity and personality of your event, we’ll be able to make sure that every detail is in harmony – working together to tell your story and reflect your style. Explore our menu of deliverables.
